Shiretrust AGM 15th February 2005

Acting Secretary’s Report

It is about 8 months since a few Shire fans decided, after much deliberation, that forming a supporters trust was the best way for the fans to apply pressure to the board of the club to prevent the payment of a dividend to the shareholders should a sale of Firs Park go ahead.

Much has happened in these 8 months:

1)      The inaugural meeting was held in Westfield Community Centre at which Shire fans approved the formation of a working party to progress the idea of a supporters trust.

2)      The working party brought the fruits of their labours, including the draft constitution, to the launch meeting held in the Cladhan Hotel where a well attended meeting approved the constitution and saw the birth of shiretrust.

3)      The acting office bearers then quickly got a bank account set up and issued application forms and began the long road of getting the first Annual General Meeting organised.

4)      All paid up members received a share certificate.

5)      A website http://shiretrust.netfirms.com was set up to keep members up to date with what is happening as regards the progress of shiretrust.

6)      All members of shiretrust were notified of the AGM either by e-mail or by post so that those members from overseas could get their votes in on tiome for the 8 candidates.

To date the membership of shiretrust stands at 104 which is close to the target that was thought achievable when the idea of a supporters trust was first discussed.

The important thing now is to get the first committee formed and for them to take on from this point. I wish them all the best in their endeavours in trying to ensure that there is a football club called East Stirlingshire FC for us to follow and support into the distant future.

I wish to thank Tad and Drummond for all of their help over the last 8 months in getting shiretrust to this very important stage and also to thank Ian Ramsay for his guidance and assistance and not forgetting Dick for his photos which were posted on the website to help those with the identification of the prospective committee members for those members unfamiliar with the regular shire fans.
